The first written reference about Krásnohorské Podhradie dates from 1322. The village is situated near Roznava town in the Kosicky region. The most important place of
interest in Krásnohorské Podhradie is Krásna Hôrka castle which was built in the 13th century and inhabited until late 18th century. The original owners of this beautiful
and unique caste were two powerful families - the family of Bebek and Máriássy. In 1578 it was handed over to the the family of Andrássy which rebuilt the castle into a
noble and palatial manor. The major part of the castle was destroyed by fire in 1817.
The castle was rebuilt again between 1903-1905 under supervision of Dionýz Andrássy. He established the Family museum in the main part of the castle and it was open
to the public in 1910. The castle was renovated during the past decade and is now one of the national cultural relics. Visitors can enjoy the exhibition of feudal settlement and historical weapons which is placed in the castle.
Earl Dionýz Andrássy has also opened the Andrássy gallery in the village of Krásnohorské Podhradie. It was built in 1908 and since 1990 it has been reopened and
serves the original purpose. The most valuable picture, which represents a part of exhibition, is Attila's death (Attilova smrť) painted by Ferenc Paczka.
Another Andrássy's building - Mausoleum - is located in the eastern part of the village and was built for Dionýz Andrássy's wife Franciska Hablawetzova. The interior of the mausoleum is very tastily decorated. It is made of marble and precious stones including beautiful mosaic made on the golden plate. The mausoleum is also the place there Earl Andrássy is buried.
