The first written mention about the foundation of this community comes from 1237. It is situated in a beautiful surrounding of Liptovská kotlina, in Nízke Tatry (Low Tatras), between the towns of Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš.

A dominant feature of Liptovský Michal is St. Michal’s Church, which is considered a cultural sight. It was built as a gothic church but in the second half of the 19th century it was rebuilt. However, now we can see here original gothic vaulting, windows and portals. Its interior is mostly baroque–styled, the main altar with the picture of St. Michal is the dominant of the whole church. A wooden belfry from the 17th century, originally built as a gate into the yard of the church, is the significant sight of the exterior. The column of St. Trinity from 1823 is another admirable sight of the community.
Liptovský Michal is situated in a tourist-attractive environment. The surroundings offer very good opportunities for shorter or longer bike trips. The community of Bešeňová is situated just behind the highway. It is famous for its thermal water springs – the swimming pools are opened through the whole year. The temperature of the water is between 30 and 40°C.

There are also ski-centers near by, for example Malinô Brdo in Ružomberok or Jasná – Chopok near Liptovský Mikuláš. A water basin called Liptovská Mara is at hand as well.
Famous personalities of our community are historians Štefan Nikolaj Hýroš and Miroslav Anton Húska. Liptovský Michal has 277 inhabitants. There is a possibility of accommodation in a little hostel with capacity of 20 persons. Family owned houses and cottages offer another possibility for accommodation.
