Lubeník-

The village of Lubeník is situated in the mountain range known as Slovenské rudohorie. Located in the picturesque valley called Muránska dolina and on the left bank of River Muráň, the village is situated half way between two towns - Jelšava and Revúca.
The earliest written reference of Lubeník village which was originally known as "Lwbnyk" dates from 1427. It has been called Lubeník since early 1919. The old legend says that young man called František Vešeléni and his girlfriend Maria Séči used to come to the area where the village is now situated and they whispered words of love and appreciation to each other. The name of the village is derived from the word of "ľúbiť" (means to cherish, to love in the English language).
Another story says that original inhabitants of the village were occupied in producing wooden wheels and the name of this village is derived from the word "lub" which means a strip of wood.
Lubeník is one of the smallest villages in the region (the total area of the village is 582 hectares). The number of inhabitants has varied over the past centuries and decades. It was influenced by local industry, amount of work in the area, Turkish invasions in the past and many other historical milestones.

New families moved into the village and more schools and facilities were needed. A new primary school was built in the mid 20th century and finally opened in 1956.
