Namestovo, which have nowadays over 8.100 inhabitants is natural social and cultural center of region. Its amenity on the shore of Orava dam lake gives its assumes to be one of the most important tourist center not only in Orava, but also in wider surroundings.

It is spoken about Namestovo often as about town of youth, because except three elementary schools six secondary schools and schools, special boarding - school and basic art school seat here. Namestovo, which lies on the shore of Orava dam lake has area 35 km square and it is center of water sports. The begin of its construction started in 1948, it was flashed in 1953. Its waters flooded 5 villages and 2/3 of Namestovo, therefore historical center isn't in Namestovo. In the middle of reservoir on island with area 3,5 hectares the jewel of former village Slanica the Slanica church is towered. It was built in 18. century. Nowadays a permanent exposition of Orava rustic art is installed in church and on island is lapidary.

White Orava region with area 690 km square is created by 23 villages and Namestovo with total number of inhabitants 56 thousand. In the North it is bordered with Poland. Whole territory is called White Orava according to name of rive, which overflows cross it. It is protected scenic area with a lot of original woodland complexes. Town Namestovo is developing activities in foreign co-operation with towns and municipalities in Poland, with various corporations, which aren't only formal. For last two years the co-operation with our first foreign partner Schouwen - Douweland (Holland) has intensified. We have nowadays realized several projects, which isn't capital, but is grafifying, that also two capital. Town Namestovo has plans to the next years to widen co-operation also in economic sphere with foreign partners especially from Poland.
