The village of Ochtiná is situated on the edge of mountain range known as Spišsko - gemerské rudohorie and Revúcka vrchovina. This village is also located in the valley known as Slavošovská dolina.

They say that the village was originally a small settlement of 8 German miners who arrived to this area to look for copper and iron. The name of the village is derived from German word "acht" and "octo" meaning "number eight".
The earliest written reference of the village dates to 1318 however it is possible that Ochtiná was destroyed after the attack of Tatars in 1241.
Mining industry was flourishing in the village over many centuries ( from 13th until early 20th century).

Local church in Ochtiná was built in the gothic style, dates from early 13th century and was devoted to the patron St.Nicolas.
The plague over 17th and 18th century caused the complete downfall of the village and its industries.

Inside the mount Hrádok there is an odd valuable sight - the Aragonite cave of Ochtiná, which was recorded into the list of world cultural and natural heritage.
The area of village possess suitable conditions for short-time walking and cyclo-tourism.
