It says that settlers built houses in the dense woods, which has created the center of the new village. Woodwork has traditionally been the main source of living for men and women in the village.
Oravská Polhora is set up in a lovely environment, surrounded by woods and several wells, which are an excellent source of mineral water. The most popular of these wells is in Slaná Voda (Salt Water) which has got the highest concentration of minerals (iodine and bromine). Water has been used for famous spa baths in the past (1864 - 1918). People could benefit from its natural goodness and mineral content. Some diseases (goitre, tuberculosis) and skin conditions such as eczema were treated in this local spa. It is in the interest of village to renovate and reopen the spa again to provide excellent services and a good standard of treatments and healing for all the sufferers to attend.
