The village of Revúcka Lehota is situated in the southeasterly part of the mountain complex known as Slovenské rudohorie and on the left hand side of the natural basin known as Muránska kotlina. The village is located only 6 km from the District town of Revúca.
The history of this village which is surrounded by farming fields, vast meadows and woods dates from 14th century. It was originally known as Lehôtka or Lehvatka, later it was called Umrlá Lehota which means "the village of Lehota died". This name was given to the village after the tragic happenings in 1575 when all inhabitants of the village died except one local woman.

The name of the village was changed in 1948 and ever since it has been called Revúcka Lehota. The earliest written reference of Revucka Lehota dates to 1427.

The cadastral area of the village includes the dam called "Flipper" which spreads across 38 hectares. The water from the dam is mainly used for industrial purposes by two nearby factories - magnesite factory Slovmag, a joint stock company in Lubeník and the SMZ company, a joint stock company in the town of Jelšava. The water is also used by the local fisherman.
The hotel which is situated nearly this dam is waiting for a suitable investor to be converted into accommodation which can be used for visitors to the area.
