The village of Silica is situated on the plain in the heart of picturesque protected area known as Slovenský kras which consists of beautiful valleys, hidden caves, old ditches, natural abysses, vast fields, clear lakes and spectacular mountains. The most attractive displays that nature provides in this region are:
The abyss known as "Brázda" which is one of the deepest abysses in the Slovak Republic.

The ice cave known as "Silická ľadnica" which is also one of the deepest caves in the country.
The lake called "Jašteričie jazero".
The plain on which Silica is located is full of various trees (mostly oaks and horn - beams) and over 900 varieties of plants, some of which are fairly unique and protected (inclucing sedge). The area is also used for walking, agricultural activities and farming.

The earliest written reference of Silica dates to 1340 when it was owned by the family of Szilonnai. Later it belonged to the family of Bebek and Andrássy (in 19th century).
The village church was built in late gothic style in 1525 and its protection walls date from 16th century.

The village water supply system was completed in 1960. The village has got its own radio broadcast network which was repaired in 1992 and is spreading the latest news and announcement for villagers via a network of public address speakers.
The village mortuary was built in 1993. The new gas supply system was implemented to the village in 1998.

The state road No. III/050 154 goes through the village and follows to the towns of Rožňava and Plešivec where it joins another road (No. I/50).
