Village Slavec, Unique drip-stone cave
The village of Slavec is situated in the southern part of the natural area known as Slovenský kras and is nestling between two plains called Plešivenská planina and Silická planina. Located by a small river of Slaná, this village has got a long history which is captured in one of the oldest parts of this village known as Vidová. Numerous old houses in Vidová reflect some traditional rural architectural features of the past centuries.
The earliest written reference of Slavec dates from 1362. The village church dates to the Hussite era and was renovated in 1801 when the front facade was rebuilt and a bell tower was erected.

The village of Slavec is also a good starting point to do some walking or cycling in the local woods and across the nearby plains. We would also recommend that the visitor explores some of the unique local caves, many of which are ice caves. There are numerous marked footpaths and cycle paths which will take you across some of the most beautiful spots and viewpoints of the area.

The nearest recreational area, which attracts many visitors and holidaymakers from Slovakia and neighboring countries every year, is called Gombasek. This holiday village offers good rates for accommodation for families, groups or individuals in the traditional wooden cottages. There is also a camping site for those who have a more restricted budget and would not mind spending their holidays under canvas in their own tent.
To make sure that the visitors of this recreational area get to know the Slovak culture better, we often organize various singing and dancing performances and cultural presentations on the stage of the open amphitheater.

This part of the country is also known for the unique drip - stone cave (known as Gombasecká kvapľová jaskyňa) which has been recently put on the list of the world's natural heritage by UNESCO. It is certainly worth to visit this place which has attracted thousands of visitors and nature lovers over the past few years.
