The village of Bacúrov is located in the district of Zvolen, surrounded by several small local villages (Breziny, Ostrá Lúka and Dubové). The village has currently just over 100 inhabitants.
The earliest written reference of Bacúrov dates from 1255 when the village was known as ''Villa Bochorou'' (Wasseraw in German). Historical background of Bacúrov reflects the geographical location of the village. Situated near well known historical mining towns of Banská Štiavnica, Banská Bystrica and Kremnica, the village was in the spotlight of many historical events. In mid 16th century during Turkish invasions, the local villagers were responsible for road guarding. Tatars were also threatening the existence of the village. In late 16th century, they used to camp just on the outskirts of Bacúrov and Ostrá Lúka.
The local church and parsonage date from 1517. The church was originally built in the gothic style. Many baroque features were added during major renovation in the late 18th century (1790). The village church belonged to both, the Catholics and Evangelists. For over 200 years, the church has been Catholic. Several famous natives preached in the village.
Mr. František Sasinek, Mr. Karol Anton Medvecký and Mr. Andrej Trúchly - Sitniansky are just three to be mentioned. Mr. K. A. Medvecký was a Member of Slovak Parliament in early 20th century.
The church bell house is well known for its old bells. The bigger bell dates from 1502 and the smaller one from 1689. For its outstanding historical value, the village church is currently on the List of Slovak Cultural Monuments.
