The town Stará Turá
This little town Stará Turá with its 10,000 inhabitants lies on the hills under the mountain Biele Karpaty (White Carpathians) with the panorama of its highest hill Veľká Javorina (970 m). The status of the town it had got in 1964, but for the first time it was mentioned in 1392 as the part of property of castle Čachtice owners. The privileges of king Mathias I. (in 1467) and king Leopold I. (in 1669) had supported its development, the old citizens were in past excellent craftsmen and clever traders, particularly with the wooden products, melted butter and linen. In the past it had paper factory and brewery, its traders were developers of bryndza (product of sheep cheese) manufactures in Detva and neighbourhood.

Many important personalities and events are connected with this town. You may find here the signs of Ľudovít Štúr, Jozef Miloslav Hurban, Augustín Roy, Ján Zimmerman and Andrej Pulman. The beginning of charity started with the attendance of sisters Maria and Kristina Roy for orphans, old and sick people, the religious literature art of Kristina became by its translation into more than 30 languages world known.
The city was not excluded of the events in 1848 – 49. During the Slovak National Uprising was the range of Biele Karpaty (the border with the Protectorat Czechia and Moravia) very important place of resistance, the surroundings is covered by a number of memorials of events and personalities of this period.

Dominants of the town are also churches of reformed parish a. v. and roman-catholic parish, among cultural places of interest there is also a pylon of shame, former municipal house and house „Dom nad pivnicou“ („Above the Cellar“). There is also the Church of Brother Parish from 1984. Memorials to the victims of World War I. and of resistance in World War II are places of thankfulness and memories….
During post war period, the enterprise Prema was playing very important role. It was a producer of measurement machinery; later it was Chirana, the world –known producer of medical machinery. Also in new conditions after re-organisation of the production and division into smaller companies, these are still the most important employers of local citizens.

The town Stará Turá with its position and surroundings offers complete possibilities of all-the year tourism, marked tourist paths and cycling paths will lead you to the natural and cultural places of interests: Hills Veľká Javorina (970 meters above the sea), Inovec (1042 meters above the sea), castles Čachtice, Beckov, Tematín, but also Trenčín and Memorial in Bradlo. The near of border with the Czech republic positively influences on tourism and cross-border co-operation. Water dams Dubník I and II are places of relax and active recreation for tourists and lovers of fishing and water sports.
