The village Kamenná poruba lies in the middle of Rajecká valley uder the mountain Malá Fatra in the valley of Porubský creek, 20 km south from Žilina 420 metres above sea level. It was called after its surrounding area where it was founded, in a fallen uphill on a rocky land. First mentions about Kamenná poruba come from 1368 from the deed of Nitran convention. It had developed as a yeoman village. The number of yeomen and their mansions had gradually increased and their names are the proves of their Slovak origin. Yeomen dignities were canceled even in 1918.
Original inhabitants had been farmers for many many years, but they had also dedicated their time to carrying timber from woods. When mills, breweries, butter factories and friut driers came into being, they worked as craftsmen.
Not many villages can be proud of that already in 1798 it had a ecclesiastic school. Despite only one wooden class covered by straw, but 100 years later, after it burned down, they built the new brick one. In 1887 they had also a post office and in 1904 also a notary office.
From the original village, where except yeomen also several farmer fiamilies lived, Kamenná Poruba has growth to its lenght, beauty and number of inhabitants 1800. In-line estate situated on both banks of Porubský creek is four kilometres long.
Roman Catholic neogothic church of All Saints from 1860 is the dominance of this village. It stands in the place of originally gothic church from the 14th century, where its arch has fallen by the earthquake. The gothic tower and valuable gothic sculptures have remainded, nowadays they are resconstructed and situated on an altar. Window-pane of academic painter Vincent Hložník is decorated by three windows. The most beautiful of three tower bells is the oldest neogothic one from the 20th century.
The wvillage is proud of the surrounding of Rajecká valley offering a lot of hiking and cycle trips. Nearby the spa city Rajecké Teplice invites you to „Swannery“ wit an island and opportunity of rowing or just visiting the thermal spa. Rajec´s main railway line is not very exacting and goes through Kamenná Poruba to Rajec or to village Konská. Visitors of Kamenná Poruba can also use services of its post-office, 4 shops, 3 pubs or a restaurant with a hostel.
