Trnavá Hora-Trnavá Hora
Trnavá Hora
Majority of the village is situated on the southern hillside of mountain range Kremnické vrchy and in the valley of river Hron, but its fields stretch to Štiavnické vrchy, too. It has advantageous location on the route between district towns Žiar nad Hronom and Zvolen. The village consists of parts Trnavá hora, Kľačany, Jalná and the oldest part is Ladno. They are mentioned already in 1388 as they were part of a manor of castle Šašovský hrad. Some parts are transforming themselves into cottage areas.
Inhabitants of the region were originally peasants and worked in forests. Life of many people was changed in eighties of 19th century when railroad Zvolen – Kremnica – Diviaky was constructed. 12 tunnels and one gallery in length of 3185m were built in a difficult mountainous terrain. Just in the section between Trnavá Hora and Turčok as many as 10 tunnels were built.
The village was originally a branch of parish of St. Cross, but parish office was established here already in 1767. Single-aisle parish church of St. Ján Nepomucký (1775), built in Baroque-Classicistic style with sacristy in backside behind a presbytery is a cultural monument and dominant feature of parish as well as village itself. Picture on the main altar depicts the patron of the church, along sides you can see statues of St. Cyril and Method. On the ceiling there is a painting depicting history of world creation, first fall, bowing down before the Blessed Sacrament direct above the church presbytery. To the parish Trnavá Hora belong the branches Jalná, Hronská Dúbrava, Hronská Breznica, Kľačany. In the upper part of Trnavá hora there is a bell-tower of Immaculate Heart of Virgin Mary.
Beautiful natural area of fields which are mostly forested, hills of mountain ranges Štiavnické and Kremnické vrchy as well as valleys are very attractive for visitors. Valley called Ihráčska dolina that is located northerly from Trnavá Hora is one of the longest valleys of Kremnické vrchy. Here we can find a recreation area called Jastrabský mlyn with the former recreation centre Borovica. Today it serves as a holiday centre for children Tralaland. Near Ihráč, on the confluence of Vápenný potok and Čierna voda, there is a water tank suitable for sport fishing. Fishermen like going to river Hron flowing directly through the village fields. Another tourist goal is an observatory hill above Bartošova Lehôtka, protected natural creation called Jastrabská skala. You can see a lower part of Podhorie, Vtáčnik, Kremnické and Štiavnické vrchy from up there. Trip to the ruin of the castle Šašov is interesting and educational. Ruins are situated on the cliff above the left bank of river Hron in Šašovské Podhradie, today the part of town Žiar nad Hronom. Since 1253 the castle has protected an access road leading to the mining area, above all to Banská Štiavnica. Since 18th century the castle has been going to ruins and today you can observe some of its Gothic and Rennaissance architectonic features.
