Nitrianska Streda
Nitrianska Streda is situated on the left bank of the river Nitra and at the foothills of the mountain range Tríbeč, 7 km southwest from district town Topoľčany. The cadastre of the village borders with the district town Topoľčany, villages Nemčice, Chrabrany, Čeľadince, Kovarce, Solčany and in the mountain range Tríbeč with the village from the district Zlaté Moravce – Velčice. Archaeological research shows that the village has been settled since the early Stone Age, the first written record of the village can be found in the document from 1278 where it is mentioned under the name Zerdahely as property of the ruler Ladislav IV.
There are several cultural-historical monuments in the village. Classicistic Roman-Catholic church of St. Philip and Jacob the Apostle has been built during the years 1785 – 1790. The single-aisle room has an added tower; there are sacristies along both sides. On the frontage in the tympanum there is a coat of arms of Zerdahely family. The classicistic main altar dates back to the end of the 18th century. The hypostyle architecture with tympanum is closed with the picture of St. Philip and Jacob. A pulpit and a font from the red marble date back to the end of the 18th century, too. On the wall behind the font there is a wall painting depicting Christ´s Baptism.
Articular Evangelic church from 1748 originally was a Baroque building which was later modified in a Classicistic style and a tower was added in 1811. It has a wooden timber ceiling, Baroque altar and hypostyle architecture with an altar picture depicting the Last Supper. Along sides between the columns there are statues of Aron and Moses. Classicistic pulpit on the column foot and Baroque chapel of St. Margita from Korton come from the 18th century, Classicistic crypt of the central ground plan from 1783.

Classicistic castle form the beginning of the 19th century was built by Florian Zerdahelyi. A ground plan of the three-wing two-floored building has U-shape and its main frontage is created by a balcony standing on the columns. The castle is situated in a local park and today it serves as an archive of the Slovak Ministry of Interior. There is one more castle from the 18th century in the village built by the Zerdahely family. It has been restored and now it is in the private property.
In our cadastre area there is a nature reserve, too. „Hrdovická“(471 MSL) with 30, 03 ha was in 1982 included among the protected areas of the Topoľčany district. The reservation is located in the mountain range Tríbeč 4 km eastwards from the village. The subjects of protection are plant communities in the rock steppes and forest steppes. There can be found both thermophilic and acidophilic vegetations. You can see there heather (Calluna vulgaris) that is very rare in this altitude as well as extraordinarily precious Woodland germander (Teucrium Scorodonia) that can be found within Slovakia only in the mountain range Tríbeč.
