The total cadastral area of the village is 2067 hectares and majority of the surrounding fields are used for the farming and agricultural purposes. The nearby woods are an ideal place for walking, outdoor activities and exploring nature.
The earliest written reference about the village of Držkovce dates from the early 12th century. Some important historical documents about the village date from 1243. This small Slovak village has been known as a center of the pottery industry in past centuries. The local Roman Catholic Church was built in the gothic style at the end of 13th century. Some baroque features were added to the church during the course of 17th and 18th century.
The well known Slovak painter Mr. István Dúdúr was born in Dražkovce and unfortunately died in the tragic accident in June 23rd, 1987. He is resting in the local churchyard, his gravestone is very artistic and unique. The memorial plate of Mr. Dúdúr has been revealed on the building of the Village Council several years ago to commemorate his achievement in the art of painting. The member of the Village Council and other villagers plan to convert one of the Council's rooms into memorial room of Mr. Dúdúr which could be used for various cultural and historical events.
