The history of Smolenice goes back a long way. The town of Smolenice is situated on the
edge of Trnavská plain, just under the Small Carpatian mountains. The earliest evidence
of settlement - such as unique archaeological findings - date from late Stone Age.
Vast numbers of valuable findings such as stone axes, threshing-floors, pieces of
ceramics, mill stones etc. date from early Stone Age. The majority of these objects
were originally found around the bank of the local river called Hložie.
Further archaeological findings date to the Bronze Age and Iron Age.
